Submission Hold for Putin the Sambo Wrestler

First attempt to overthrow Vladimir Putin went unnoticed in Lausanne. Shady businessmen put themselves without asking at the helm of International Sambo Federation, personally supervised by the national leader. Putin's sparring partner and State Duma member Vasily Shestakov from St Petersburg parries the blow with the help of Swiss court and Russian Public Prosecutor's Office. Strategic conclusions have already been made under the carpet.

Switzerland-based International Sambo Federation (FIAS), personally supervised by Vladimir Putin, on July 25 declared the unplanned change of management. Several members of the organization have taken possession of statutory documents and proclaimed themselves to be its Executive Committee.

This may have been an everyday story were it not for the names of the suspended FIAS functionaries. The organization was presided by Vasily Shestakov, national leader's sparring partner, citizen of St Petersburg and member of State Duma. The situation is even more delicate because it was he who had been trusted to create Russia's new image through Great Britain's aristocracy, particularly with the help of sports achievements.

Register and Credit

"The unfortunate incident happened on July 18, but we learned about it only a week later," stated FIAS in reply to Fontanka's question. "Two persons, whom we planned to expel from Federation at the next congress, conspired with its co-founder Nikolai Lentz. They made changes into Swiss Trade Register: instead of the present members of organization's Executive Committee, the list included 15 new names."

The invaders graciously or cautiously (which is useless in this context) left Putin himself an Honorary President. Another FIAS executive who managed to save his place is Andrei Klyamko, a businessman, Forbes list member and head of St Petersburg Sambo Federation. "Probably this name attracted the plotters thanks to his perfect credit history: it could be helpful in illegal financial operations," note the sportsmen.

President Shultz and Premier Rudman

The biographies of the respected sports organization's new management may impress even most disinterested observer. The proclaimed president of sambo wrestlers' main organization is Mikhail Shultz, aged 47, whose life was most turbulent in the 1990s. "Shultz used to be a member of Izmailovo organized "business group," and just six years ago he was so involved in resolving certain customs issue with some "honorary" citizens of Velikiye Luki that their conversation ended up with shooting on the motorway. Afterwards Shultz even called the police, when crime bosses with nicknames like Sergei Tashkent and Slava Rizhsky were murdered," inform Fontanka's sources. Official information about Shultz's life is as good as pie: in 2000s he was an executive in several organizations dealing with sambo promotion.

Mr Shultz's right hand David Rudman is quite a historical character. He was FIAS leader before Vasily Shestakov came in 2009. "He wasn’t exactly what you call an effective manager," say sambo wrestlers themselves. According to them, FIAS office, based in Shultz's private New York apartment (he is both U.S. and Russian citizen), did not do anything practical.

In May 2013 in the U.S. were arrested two members of the local sambo federation that had been organized with the help of Shultz and Rudman. "The FBI carried out the investigation. It was about money laundering using sports organizations. Alimzhan Tokhtakhunov, better known as Taiwanchik, was also named in this case," say sportsmen familiar with the situation.

"The Federation was passed over to me in dire straits," Mr Shestakov tells Fontanka. "From South America, for instance, only one national union from Venezuela was part of it. Now there are 26 of them." Under Shestakov, Federation moved to Lausanne, closer to the Olympic Committee, and started lobbying sambo to be accepted as an Olympic sport.

In the biography of the third scheme member, Nikolai Lenz, the most common word is "former." Former Executive Secretary of USSR Olympic Committee, former Deputy Chairman of Russian State Committee for Sports, former Director, Paralympic Games, in Sochi 2014 Steering Committee, today Lenz settled for a modest role of the head of Institute of Innovative Sports Technologies, a non-profit organization. "One can only suggest what associates him with Shultz and Rudman. Yet they seem to have some significant leverage on Lenz, including financial one," FIAS believes unofficially.

Clone and Umbrella

Fontanka's sources familiar with the history of movement have the following version: International Sambo Federation could be useful for Shultz and Rudman as an umbrella structure for their business. In June they registered in Malaysia FIAS's "clone" - an organization called UniversalSomboFederation. "It was supposed to accumulate financial flows from companies affiliated to Shultz. The money would then be transferred into accounts of International Sambo Federation. And already from there completely clean finances would be distributed among shady sports organizations scattered across the globe," Fontanka's sources believe. "The scheme looks good. Vladimir Putin as a Honorary President fits in it perfectly. Names such as this give gravity to any activities."

Reputation and Kneeling

We could not get Mikhail Shultz himself to confirm or refute the hypothesis: the phone of the sportsman who sowed discord among international community was not answering on Friday evening. However, new FIAS president may have to talk to the police. "We are trying to work out the results of the incident in civil litigation initiated in the Lausanne court of the first instance," says Vasily Shestakov. Later the the toppled FIAS Executive Committee is going to appeal to Swiss police and Russian Public Prosecutor's Office.

It remains unknown what Federation's Honorary President Vladimir Putin thinks about the incident. The information, however, has already been related to him. "Hopefully the reaction will follow. The reputation of the whole sport is at stake," Vasily Shestakov says. Fontanka asked Mr Shestakov a question that took him off guard: "What was Vladimir Putin's favourite sambo hold?"

"Spinning takedown while kneeling," Mr Shestakov said instantly, and he himself looked a bit abashed by his own sincerity.

It should be noted that although everyone thinks Vladimir Putin to be a judo wrestler, this is not quite correct. Vladimir Putin got his Master of Sports degree in sambo at the age of 19 in 1971, while Judo Federation was registered in the USSR only in 1972.

Management of International Sambo Federation Denies News About Changes in Executive Committee Composition

Geneva, June 26. /ITAR-TASS/. Management of International Sambo Federation /FIAS/ made a statement in which it denied the change in composition of its Executive Committee. Text of the statement signed by FIAS President Vasily Shestakov has been posted on FIAS official web site.

According to the statement, "FIAS lawyers notified the Federation's head office about an attempt to change the names of FIAS top management in the Trade Register of the Canton Vaud in Switzerland /FIAS's place of incorporation in 2011 - ITAR-TASS/. List of 16 names has been submitted to the Trade Register of the Canton Vaud. Names of 15 present members of the FIAS Executive Committee, including FIAS President Vasily Shestakov, FIAS Vice Presidents Dalil Skalli and Sergey Eliseev, members of the FIAS Executive Committee Vladimir Yaprintsev, Makhmud Abduloev, Roberto Ferraris, Rumen Stoilov, Nobuyuki Asai and others have disappeared from the Executive Committee member list."

Group of persons, who have nothing to do with Federation's executive bodies, was included into the new list of FIAS Executive Committee members by illicitly changing the list of Trade Register.

"The list includes: the suspended Mikhail Shultz, David Rudman, Nikolai Lenz, Fazliddin Pulatov, as well as Yakov Kogan, Andrey Birukov, Ata Adaev, Ravshan Akhmedjanov, Kevin Dya, Pavel Gorodnov, Hasan Noman, Eduardas Rudas and Viorel Gyska," says the statement. This unauthorised list also included 1st FIAS Vice President Andrey Kliamko. Currently 3 persons from this list of "new /FIAS/ Executive Committee", including Mr Kliamko, have already denied their participation in the so-called "congress."

According to the Press Service, FIAS congress will be held no sooner than November 2013. "As we all know, the next FIAS congress will be held as always during Sambo World Championship in November this year," says the statement of the Federation's Press Service. "However, according to the documents that have been submitted to the Swiss Trade Register, the alleged FIAS congress has already taken place in Kuala Lumpur /Malaysia/ on June 21-22 of this year."

"FIAS is presently initiating criminal investigation of this case," states Federation's management.

Hostile Takeover of President’s Favourite Sports

Today FIAS lawyers (Fr. Fédération Internationale Amateur de SAMBO, SAMBO International Federation) notified the Federation’s head office about an attempt to change the names of FIAS top management in the Trade Register of the Canton Vaud in Switzerland (FIAS’s place of incorporation in 2011), which came as a surprise for FIAS management, because it was not them who made any changes.

Yet a list of 16 names has been submitted to the Trade Register of the Canton Vaud. Names of 15 present members of the FIAS Executive Committee, including FIAS President Vasily Shestakov, FIAS Vice Presidents Dalil Skalli and Sergey Eliseev, members of the FIAS Executive Committee Vladimir Yaprintsev, Makhmud Abduloev, Roberto Ferraris, Rumen Stoilov, Nobuyuki Asai and others have disappeared from the Executive Committee member list.

At the same time, names of new people, who have nothing to do with SAMBO International Federation, have been added into the list: Mikhail Shultz, David Rudman, Nikolai Lenz, Fazliddin Pulatov, as well as Yakov Kogan, Andrey Birukov, Ata Adaev, Ravshan Akhmedjanov, Kevin Dya, Pavel Gorodnov, Hasan Noman, Eduardas Rudas and Viorel Gyska. This misterious list also included 1st FIAS Vice President Andrey Kliamko, who immediately stated that he did not know anything about it.

Apparently, this is the case of a blatant hostile takeover. Mikhail Shultz has proclaimed himself to be Federation’s new president, gathered documents showing that a certain meeting allegedly took place on June 21-22, which elected the new Executive Committee and now, with the help of Nikolai Lenz, David Rudman and Fazliddin Pulatov, he is trying to take control over Federation’s bank accounts.

Mr Shultz has something worth fighting for. According to Federation’s web site, SAMBO International Federation (FIAS) is a non-governmental public non-commercial organisation, uniting national SAMBO federations. FIAS is the only recognised international organisation being in charge of the development of SAMBO in the world.

But this in not just another international sports organisation. In our country, SAMBO Federation is an elite club. Sambo is President’s favourite sport, and it says it all. Vladimir Putin has done a lot to develop and promote this sport worldwide and Federation today is a really powerful and influential organisation. It is a honey pie for crooks and rogues because with the help of this Federation, you can build your business relations with Russia and within it in a completely different way. Besides, Federation also handles large sums of money to promote sambo. And because of this, such risky game as document forging, false meetings, etc. is worth the candle. It is even more so for such people as Mr Shultz, who are trying to avoid the actual criminal trials. They have to get to the top by any means possible.

Little is known about Mikhail Shultz, and this is because people like him are not fond of publicity for obvious reasons. According to experts, Mikhail Shultz is an active member of Podolsk organized crime group and is involved in organization of intimate services in Moscow Oblast’. He has been repeatedly detained for illegal drug trade. Besides, he has been arrested for kidnapping a man whose wife paid Mikhail Shultz money to release him.

Yet Mr Shultz is still at large and now he is trying to take over the President’s favourite sport federation.

It is easy to imagine what is going to happen with it. It can be sold to third parties or even be used for mafia’s money laundering. It is no coincidence that in June of the same year Mikhail Shultz registered an organization in Malaysia called UniversalSomboFederation.

FIAS is presently initiating criminal investigation of this case.

FIAS lawyers are working on this issue in Switzerland, Russia, USA and other countries.

FIAS congress that traditionally elects the members of Executive Committee takes place in November, during Sambo World Championship.

Vladimir Putin’s friend is being denuded of the SAMBO Federation

Today, the legal experts of the International Sambo Federation alerted its Head Office of the attempt to change the names of the senior management team of the Federation in the Swiss trade register in Canton Vaud (where the Federation was registered in 2011). It came as a surprise for the sports management group as they did not move any amendments.

According to the news agency “Novoye informatsionnoe agentstvo” the list of 16 names was provided to make amendments to the trade registry in canton Vaud. 15 current members of the Executive Committee of the Sambo Federation, including its president Vasily Shestakov, vice-presidents Dalil Scalli and Sergey Eliseev, and members of the Executive Committee of the Federation Vladimir Yaprintsev, Mahmoud Abdulloev, Roberto Ferraris, Rumen Stoilov, Nabuyuki Asai and some others seem to have vanished from the list of the Executive Committee members of the Sambo Federation.

Instead, some other people who have nothing to do with the Federation surprisingly appeared in the list, among them Michail Shultz, David Rudman, Nikolay Lenz, Fazliddin Pulatov, Yakov Kogan, Andrey Biryukov, Ata Adaev, Ravshan Akhmedjanov, Kevin Dya, Pavel Gorodnov, Hasan Noman, Eduardas Rudas, and Viorel Gyska. The mysterious list includes also the 1st vice-president of the Federation Andrey Klyamko who was quick to say he was not aware of the new membership.

“All of this is somehow an unashamed raid”, the agency assumes.

FIAS to investigate the amendments to the Executive Committee list

MOSCOW, July 26 – R-Sport. The International Sambo Federation (FIAS) has ordered a criminal investigation of the attempt to change the names of the senior management team in the Swiss trade register in canton Vaud.

“15 names of the current members of the Executive Committee, including its president Vasily Shestakov vanished from the register”, says the official web site of the federation. The list of all the members has been updated. A certain Mikhail Shultz and a certain Nikolay Lenz are registered as the president and the secretary general of the federation correspondingly.

The Federation reports that “yesterday and today Lenz’s and Shultz’s proxies made attempts to get access to FIAS banking accounts”.

The case is most likely to involve third persons with dubious and false contracts and commercial transactions made on behalf of FIAS that are subject to further litigation.
