The French continued Christmas celebration with the sambo Day

All sambo fans and lovers in the world know that the Birthday of our combat is celebrated on November 16. In 1938 this very day the Sports Committee of the USSR included sambo in the list of sports cultivated in the country. Today, 75 years later, it’s celebrated in more than 80 countries on 5 continents. And the sambo athletes from the country of Fashion decided to continue the Christmas celebration by arranging an extraordinary sambo Day in France. Read our today’s report devoted to this event.

The Sambo Fest was hosted by the city of Craie in Languedoc-Roussillon, the South of France. The main characters at Sambo Fest were the French sambo celebrities: Laure Fournier, the World and Europe Championship prize winner, the silver medalist of the Universiade in Kazan, and Céline Conde, not so famous and award-winning teammate yet, who has just started her sports career in Sambo.

The Sambo Fest began on January 11 with a workshop for young sambo athletes organized by the Regional Sambo Committee for Languedoc-Roussillon. This initiative was supported by many sport clubs practicing unarmed defense. These are Martial Arts of Craie, Judo Athletique Poussins, Montpellier, Dojo Baillargoi and Judo-club de Lunel-Viel.

The sambo athletes have invited children in the fascinating sambo world for more than 4 hours. Celine and Laure demonstrated the young sambo athletes in a playful and simple way the best tricks and subtleties of their techniques formed and successfully used for many years of sambo trainings.

As is common for pedagogy, theory and practice always go together. The Sambo Fest in France was not an exception. The practical part was followed by the theory, i.e. communication. Young sambo athletes got some advice and recommendations from their coaches from the big-time sambo during a Q&A session. The subjects were the most diverse: from advantages and disadvantages of sports career, its combination with personal life to how to lose weight. And the French fest was finished by autograph sessions and memorable photos.

Very soon, in 10 days the team of French sambo athletes will take part in the first event of the FIAS sports calendar, i.e. the Sambo World Cup series “For the Prizes of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbaev”. The Tournament will take place in the capital of Kazakhstan, Almaty, on February 24-25.
